Thin is Virtualization – VMware Style
VMware virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) was born from the success of VMware’s server virtualization, and its proven benefits to IT. In VDI, the ESX Server contains not a series of virtual servers, but instead virtual desktops, each VM loaded or dynamically provisioned with a user’s OS and applications.
Enterprise Desktop Virtualization takes this one step further, getting rid of the PCs at the desktop, and putting ultra-small, completely secure thin clients in their place, linking them to their respective virtual desktops in the datacenter. With desktop environments consolidated within the data center, organizations can deliver secure, isolated desktops that are always on. Clients – All Wyse clients are compatible with VDI, and our clients were the first to support the VDI model. Working closely with VMware, Wyse has included VDI specific functionality in the client devices, including awareness of, and compatibility with connection brokers. Wyse clients like the S10 and V10L have this functionality built right into the client operating system for the best functionality and performance.
Provisioning – Wyse’s provisioning technology, Wyse WSM, supports using Zero Clients with VDI. Wyse V00 and V00L zero clients are provisioned with the right OS and local capability to be the ideal VDI clients, also increasing reliability and security.
Management – Wyse Device Manager enables the IT team to centrally manage thin clients in a VDI environment, providing a solution that I agile, and works over all types of network connections (LAN, WAN, and wireless).
Enrichment – If delivering the best user experience is important, then Wyse TCX Multimedia software is the solution. Wyse TCX Multimedia works with the RDP protocol (that connects the virtual machines on the server to the client), accelerating, and intelligently balancing workload to display rich multimedia on the client, often offloading the task from the server entirely. TCX Multimedia delivers rich PC quality multimedia to users of VDI, so good, in fact, that VMware now includes it in ESX Server 3, version 3.02.
