Wyse Technology Expands Investments in Asia To Meet Rising Regional Demand For Network-Centric Computing

New Management, Software Development Center and Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo Operations Extend Company's Thin Client Leadership

Wyse Technology, the global leader in network-centric computing, today announced it has established new operational bases in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Japan to capitalize on an anticipated doubling of the thin client market in Asia, over the next two years. With revenue from Asia projected to top 20% by 2007, Wyse has additionally appointed a new Asia regional president, Andrew Hu, to rapidly expand pan-Asian R&D and Operations teams.

"Wyse is the market leader in revenue and shipments both globally and regionally in Asia Pacific with nearly 35% of all thin clients shipped in 2004," commented Bob O'Donnell, Research VP, Clients and Displays with IDC. "We predict the thin client market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 20.5% from 2005 to 2009, significantly outpacing the overall growth rate of the PC market."

Wyse has appointed former Oracle and Network Appliance senior executive Andrew Hu as President, Asia Pacific. The company has also expanded its Beijing software development center. The team, which will grow to more than 50 engineers by the end of 2005, will focus on critical software programs including further development of Wyse's market-leading thin-client "Blazer" and Linux operating systems, as well as work on its Microsoft-based thin-client OSs. Customer and sales support will be provided from a new 20,000 sq. ft. Asia Pacific headquarters, located at Beijing's Raycom Infotech Park.

"We are seeing renewed interest in network-centric computing and the thin client among CIOs and IT managers around the region," said Andrew Hu. "In markets such as the Mainland, where some industries are rolling out computing on the desktop for the first time, as well as in more established markets facing TCO, compliance and privacy issues, network-centric solutions from Wyse enable a new level of security, control and manageability."

Network-centric computing manages complexity at the edge of the network by allowing data and processing power to be based on central servers rather than on vulnerable desktop and laptop devices. According to John Kish, President and CEO of Wyse Technology, the enablers are now in place to make this technology a compelling option for enterprises across Asia: "The bandwidth that is critical to a network-centric computing solution is available to enterprises across the region today. By leveraging this bandwidth, companies can get all the functionality of the PC without the cost and security headaches associated with deploying large numbers of desktop and laptop PCs. Most importantly, today's advanced remote device management software enables IT administrators to control, manage, and leverage the network very effectively and efficiently."

Industry research from Gartner suggests that using thin clients can result in up to 41% in overall cost savings, compared with typically managed PCs . According to Andrew Hu, the top IT managers, CFOs and CEOs in the region are realizing that the time to look at thin clients is now: "Transaction and task workers are needlessly being given PCs. This is overkill for their needs, wastes precious company resources, and unnecessarily exposes company and customer data and expensive assets to theft, corruption, and loss. Network-centric computing is the right solution for today's toughest IT issues and will easily scale to address tomorrow's challenges too."
