Wyse Technology Dominates Thin-Client Market for the Fourth Consecutive Year

Company Captures Number One Market Position For Thin Clients According To New IDC Bulletin; Wyse's Business Grows 30 Percent In 2000

Wyse Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-appliance computing, announced today the company successfully secured the number one position in the thin-client market in 2000, according to International Data Corporation's (IDC) recent announcement. According to bulletin #01C2964 from IDC (Thin Is In, Again: Enterprise Thin Client Forecast and Analysis, 2000-2005) in Framingham, MA, Wyse Technology secured 38.1 percent of the overall worldwide enterprise thin-client market. Additionally, Wyse manufactured nearly 50 percent of all thin clients sold in 2000 when including thin clients sold by OEM partners. Wyse's shipments for the year grew 30.6 percent. IDC secured information for the bulletin from major vendors and channel partners, as well as through analysis of shipment records.

"The thin-client market continues to show a healthy growth rate of 28.6 percent, illustrating a continued demand for PC-alternative devices in the market," said Bob O'Donnell, research director, device technology at IDC. "Wyse's brand recognition and OEM partnerships, as well the strategic move to add strong management software through the acquisition of Netier's Rapport software, should position the company for continued growth."

Wyse's Vision For Thin Computing

The concept of "thin" devices was pioneered by Wyse as an alternative to personal computers in many of today's business environments. Wyse ignited the global explosion of "thin" appliances with the delivery of the first thin client, the Wyse Winterm device, in 1994. This led to the debut of other breakthrough "thin" devices, such as fixed-function consumer Internet appliances, web phones and enhanced PDAs. Wyse has a vision where new "thin" information appliances will touch virtually every aspect of our day-to-day lives, and emerge as part of the popular culture. In addition to manufacturing and selling the most widely recognized thin-client brand on the market today (IDC Special Report # 2639, Enterprise Thin Client Survey: Customer Directions and Buying Behavior), Wyse is creating a software infrastructure that will help manage any device, anywhere in the world through the company's Rapport management software.

"2000 was a great year for Wyse as we expanded our market leadership, landed major customers in our key vertical markets including transportation and retail and extended our value to our customers through the acquisition of Netier," said Jeff McNaught, vice president of market strategy for Wyse Technology. "As Wyse continues to drive the thin appliance momentum, we are confident that our position, our brand and our strategic partnerships will help us maintain a firm hold on our thin-appliance marketshare."
